Garden Description

A gravestone found at Sorsovu identifies “the monument and garden (peribolo) of Athenais the daughter of Xennios" (Ἀθηναΐδι τῇ Ξεννίου σῆμα καὶ τὸ περιβόλι), and calls down incurable disease on any who wish to harm them. Here it seems, as more often in western Asia Minor, a tomb garden is identified metonymically by reference to its perimeter wall.
